Fensepost.com CD Review : Soul Distraction - Ticket To Paradise

Soul Distraction is one of those groups you rarely see in this current frame of being. There is no dilemma of rationalization in listening to their music. There is no discredit in yearning to know this very powerful and talented group of musicians. And their sophomore release Ticket To Paradise is another chapter in the ever growing and spectacular being are these profound characters of modern rock n roll.

There is too much evidence in Ticket To Paradise to believe that Elsa Faith and company have not taken a yearning to creating perfectly impacting tracks with a touch of pop influence. “Raining In Paradise” is so catchy and perfectly proportionate to the disconcerting realities of rock n roll. Elsa’s wonderful vocals are at their best on this star track. Vocal capacities are displayed gravely on “Not Gonna Sing About You Anymore” as well. Think of K.T. Tunstall meets Aerosmith on this radio friendly cut. Soul Distraction’s beginnings feel remastered on the more art school friendly “Struggle” (a full band version from their previous acoustic album, Bare Bones).

This is an album that can create instant Distraction mania. Even as a spring release, this is easily one of the best albums of the year. Books, not music reviews, would be required to truly receive and comprehend the beauty of this record before actually hearing it’s genius. There hasn’t been a hard rock/alternative album of it’s caliber in many years. This is a group that sustains all the criteria to be a substantial act in the history of rock n roll.

In 2006, guitarist Rich Cornelison and bassist Marty Mitchell got together with Guitarist Don Lindner and Drummer Tim Scrivner to form a band. They added the final piece of the puzzle when they found heavy metal vocalist Elsa Faith while searching through MySpace.com.

Elsa, who comes from Singapore, has that special combination that most lead singers can only hope for, looks hot enough to melt the paint off of a car with the singing talent to back it up.

The band hails from Southern Washington State and The Truth Pill is their full-length debut release.

The band lists their musical influences as, Black Sabbath, The Cult, Guns & Roses, Alice In Chains and Megadeth.

Don't expect a copycat type sound from the band though they add their own uniqueness to their sound. The band adds powerful guitar hooks and killer riffs to punch up their sound, while thunderous drum beats control the tempo.

While most of the songs are real rockers the band does slow it down for with an occasional more melodic or ballad style of song.

All of the different musical parts come together well in their songs and Elsa's vocals act as the glue holding it all together.

She shows a wide range of vocal styles from soft and sweet to down and dirty in true rock style.

The song lyrics are gritty and deal with real life issues including love and all the ways it can go wrong. So you'll find some honest thoughts and a few uses of the f-word in the song lyrics.

This band seems to have a really good chemistry that comes through in their music. I'm sure that will be hearing a lot more from them in the future.
